German

The German Program offers study abroad opportunities to Bamberg, Fulda, and Münster for WVU students at all levels of language ability.

In addition, there are many programs funded by the German government and other organizations to which we can help you apply. Please see Dr. Deborah Janson or Dr. Cynthia Chalupa for more information.

Bamberg

This program is designed for students with advanced conversation and writing skills in German. To participate, students must have a high intermediate to advanced level of proficiency. The program lasts one to two semesters, with students receiving WVU credits for the courses they take at the university in Bamberg. Students pay WVU tuition plus their own living expenses, with inexpensive housing offered through the university in Bamberg.

Fulda

This program encompasses a two-week intensive German for the Professions course that introduces students to the language and culture of a professional work setting in Germany. The intensive language course is followed by the unique opportunity to do a two-week internship at a local business in Fulda, where students gain firsthand experience regarding daily transactions in the German professional world. After the internship, students participate in a four-week language and culture program through the International Summer University at the Fulda University for Applied Sciences. The program includes excursions to the historic Fulda Gap, the Wartburg Castle (where Luther translated the Bible), and trips to Berlin, Munich, and Vienna.

Münster

This four-week faculty-led summer study abroad program provides intensive language and culture instruction at the Kapito Language School in Münster, Germany. In addition, tutorials and excursions into Münster and the surrounding area are provided. Münster itself—an 800-year old town that is home to the third largest university in Germany—offers students many rich and exciting cultural and social opportunities. Participants will reside with Germans in private homes or apartments. This six-credit program is open to all majors and skill levels, including beginners.
