Financial Assistance

We offer competitive Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) for students in any of our three M.A. programs (Linguistics, Spanish or TESOL). Teaching assistantships are available in the following of languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, English as a Second Language, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. 

Graduate teaching assistants receive tuition waivers and a monthly stipend for the semesters in which they are teaching. GTAs are required to pay for student fees, living expenses and health insurance. Students who do not have an assistantship may apply for meritorious tuition waivers. Please be advised that Merit hours are limited and highly competitive.

Graduate Teaching Assistantship Requirements

  • WLLL TA Application
  • An academic writing sample in the language you are applying to teach, if different from the language of the area you are applying to study, is also required to be considered as a graduate teaching assistant. Please upload your additional writing sample within the University Application.
  • A recorded sample of your speech. Please see the final page of the WLLL TA Application for instructions on what to record and how to submit the recording.

Application Deadline

To be assured full consideration, the applications and supporting documents should be returned by October 1 for spring admission for February 1 for fall admission. Your application for a graduate teaching assistantship cannot be considered unless you have been admitted to one of our programs.
