Marie Paillard, Ph.D.

French Coordinator, Teaching Assistant Professor

Marie Paillard completed an M.A. in American Literature at the Université de Caen, and M.A.s in French and Francophone Studies from the University of Delaware and the Pennsylvania State University. She completed a Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies from the Pennsylvania State University in 2022.

She teaches French language and culture at the undergraduate level. She enjoys introducing students of French to cultural elements such as literature, film, and television in her French classes to give students a lived experience of the language and culture they are learning. Her research focuses on 20th and 21st century Francophone literatures from the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, and on how literary texts can help us decenter our vision of migratory pathways. She has published research articles in Nouvelles Études Francophones and the International Journal of Francophone Studies.
