The Chinese Program offers study abroad opportunities in China and Taiwan forWVU students who have finished at least one year of Chinese language study. We strongly encourage students to participate in a summer or a semester long study abroad program in China or Taiwan to improve Chinese language proficiency, learn about Chinese culture, and experience the modern Chinese society. Thanks to the Johnson endowment for Chinese Studies, generous grants are available to support these programs.

Summer Faculty Led Programs

Prerequisite: CHIN 102

Taiwan: Ming Chuan University

This is a four-week intensive Chinese language and culture immersion program hosted by Ming Chuan University in Taipei, which is a modern, prosperous and safe city in Taiwan. Students will improve language skills, develop knowledge and appreciation of traditional Chinese culture and civilization, and experience firsthand the dynamic economy and modern trends of Taipei. Ming Chuan University is located in a convenient and lively district in the city where the students will have plenty of chances to practice Chinese with the native speakers. Field trips include National Palace Museum, famous scenic places, Taipei Finance District, Taiwan?s Legislature House, The Presidential Palace, night markets, traditional temples, etc. The students will live in double occupancy hotel rooms at the teaching hotel managed by Ming Chuan University. 

Semester Long Programs

China: Nanjing University

Prerequisite: CHIN 204

Ming Chuan University, Taiwan 

WVU has established an exchange program with Ming Chuan University in Taiwan. This exchange will allow WVU students to spend a semester or a year at Ming Chuan by paying WVU tuition. As Taiwan’s top international university, Ming Chuan University has state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to studying Chinese language, students will enroll in their International College where all courses in areas such as International Business, Mass Communications, Information Management, and Tourism are taught in English.
